As the weather begins to move from those warm summer days to cold moody ones this season is the time to add warming foods into your diet. Warming foods help warm you from the inside out which helps ground, nourish and strengthen your immune system. The types of food to eat in this season will be specific to your personal climate. As every place will have a slightly different growing season and temperature eating what is locally grown is key. It will help you get more nutritional value from your food as well since it has traveled a far short distance to your plate. An additional fact about eating locally is it helps the local economy and farmers which is a win-win in my book.

If you are feeling inclined and inspired to eat even more locally I invite you to try growing some of these vegetables and herbs in your home this autumn!

When you are planning what to eat this season you can keep these specific foods in mind.

  1. Root Vegetables - pumpkin, sweet potatoes, carrots, turnips, parsnips, and squash

  2. Green Vegetables - Broccoli, spinach, kale, and celery

  3. Fruit - apples, citrus fruits, and pears

  4. Herbs- Ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, rosemary, basil, and thyme

Now for the recipes! I wanted to share my favorite vegan autumn recipes that I’ve found from amazing recipe developers and food bloggers. These have been stables for me during the autumn season as they are easy and delicious.
